The best tree trimming companies deserve the best insurance and often ask: How do I qualify for the very best insurance for my tree trimming business?
The answer is education and certifications from some of the accredited arborist organizations. Our arborist specialty insurance program includes preferred pricing for the following certifications:
- ISA Certified Arborist or Master Arborist – ISA Certified Arborist
- CTSP (Certified Tree Safety Professional) – Become a Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) – Tree Care Industry Association, LLC.
- ISA Tree Worker Certifications such as Climber certification, Aerial Lift certification – Types of Credentials
- Forestry, Urban Forestry, or Arboriculture degree from an accredited university.
At least one employee or supervisor of the company has to have one of these certifications. In addition, there are a few additional underwriting guidelines that will apply:
- Not involved in disconnecting/reconnecting power lines, clearing branches from power lines (unless incidental), work for municipalities (unless incidental).
- Does not have over 50% subcontracted work – Only sub-out the work you cannot perform.
- Does not use telescopic cranes – very large tree service companies can still be insured under a surplus lines program.
- Does not have more than 25% of revenue coming from pesticide/herbicide application.
- Errors & Omissions coverage E & O is required – see bottom of page for examples.
- We have a minimum Property Damage GL deductible of $1000.00 – you pay the first $1000.00 of any GL damage – very straighforward.
In addition, the insurance carrier will want to know, are you a member of TCIA or ISA?
- ISA – International Society of Arboriculture – International Society of Arboriculture
- TCIA – Tree Care Industry Association – TCIA Tree Care Business Membership Benefits Explained – Tree Care Industry Association, LLC.
We also offer workers’ compensation for tree service companies through WCF – Workers Compensation Fund of Utah. This will be the best solution for your workers compensation coverage. Workers Compensation Utah : WCF Insurance

Below is the supplemental application and questions we will need to complete to determine eligibility for the best tree service insurance coverage

What is Errors & Omissions (E&O) for Arborists?
True certified arborists do consulting, tree health diagnosis, and risk assessments. If they misdiagnose an oak tree as healthy and it crashes onto a house six months later, that’s an E&O claim, not a standard General Liability claim.
Another example of an Arborist E & O claim is removal of the wrong tree. What if you send your crew to remove a tree and they remove a 50-year-old prized tree that offered valuable shade? That is an example of a claim that would fall under Arborist E & O and not the General Liability coverage.
